Joe Janello

Joe Janello, 73, passed away at 8:59 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin after nearly a 20-year battle with Alzheimers Disease.  Joe died peacefully with his family at his side.
Joe was born on December 26, 1930 in Du Quoin to Faustino and Mary (Brungo) Janello.  He was met in Heaven by his parents, Faustino and Mary; in laws, Belle and Lester Derrington; brothers, Frank Janello and Jim Janello; sister, Mayme Porter; sister-in-law, Nancy Janello and brothers-in-law, Bert Porter, Sonny Cavinder, Bill Withrow, Harold Linneweber, Billy Derrington,  Loras (Lefty) Derrington and Bill Mondoni and nephew, James Ballard (Dusty) Janello.
Surviving siblings are Lena Mondoni of Benton, Patty Janello of Herrin and Barbara Linneweber of Christopher; sisters-in-law, Vera Cavinder, Pat Withrow and Vivian Janello Dietz, all of Christopher and Betty Lewis and brother-in-law, Louie (Junior) Lewis of Bloomington.
Joe married his love Genevieve (Jenny) Derrington on Sunday, April 30, 1950 and together had three daughters, Debri Jo Haskins and husband Al of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Kimbra Jo Edmonds and husband bob of Mulkeytown and Jenny Janello of Christopher.  He was later blessed with five grandchildren, David Joseph Eurgil and wife Amber of Mobile, Ala., Jamie Jo Reed of Christopher, Alison Nicole Baria and husband Marcus of Mobile, Ala., Genevieve Jo Umbrianna of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Janelle Nicole Garner of Christopher.  His family continued to grow with the births of his great-grandchildren, Jacob Ryan Reed, Lily Victoria Baria, Isabella Derrington Eurgil, Cole David Baria and Baby Eurgil due in November.  Four step-grandchildren, Robby and Bryan Edmonds and Rick and Angie Haskins and two step-great-grandchildren, Donovan and Alex Baria along with many, many nieces and nephews complete his family.
Joe was the proud owner/operator of Janello Motor Company in Mulkeytown for 31 years where his wife Jenny worked by his side.  He was a hardworking man who loved unconditionally and provided a good, happy life for his family.  He collected antique cars and for many years owned his pride and joy 1948 Lincoln Continental Mark I.  He was a member of the Egyptian Antique Auto Club and Lincoln Continental Owners Club.  Joe enjoyed taking his Lincoln to car shows around the country.
Joe will be remembered for his quick smile, generous nature and most of all his gentleness.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be very deeply missed.  We lost out heart, but gained an angel.
His family celebrated his life at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher Thursday, May 27 from 4 to 7 p.m.    A memorial service began at 7 p.m. with Monsignor Lombardo officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shawnee Christian Nursing Center where the staff took wonderful care of Joe for many years or to the local chapter of the Alzheimers Association .
